"Gawd Bless Americah"

This piece is very much a reflection of my mind state about society at the moment. So much life can feel upside down, or opposite to what you believe or feel. I wrote the text “God Bless America” but with writing errors, because it means the same thing but it’s spelled different. I see so many times people are saying God is on THIER side, or claiming they are in the side that is morally right , just confuses me honestly. To me we are looking/ praying for the same thing. We are in the together , learning & figuring Life out.

I made a light box.

I have been experimenting with light boxes my last few shows. I really like the idea of bringing light into this world, weather that’s metaphorically or actually creating a light box that people can own in their house. I guess my idea would be that people post in their crib, and when they feel like they need a bit of encouragement they can turn to the art. I don’t know, I’m sure I’m reaching for a more importance of what it actually is. It’s basically a lamp that doesn’t stay on or give much light, I suppose but I really enjoy creating these and hope to make more. Peace & thank you for reading.

Enjoy the progress

Starting a new canvas can be a metaphor for everything in life. Starting something new/ starting fresh gotta be patient, as much I wanna finish the work, get the end results I’m learning I have to be patient. Before with my art, I would rush it or be impatient because I just wanted my idea to become reality. I just wanted to be at the finish line, but as much I wants to finish I forgot to enjoy the process. I forgot that every brush stroke, color choice , line work adds to the beauty. I wouldn’t claim to be the dopest or a master artist but, I am learning to enjoy the process of making art, not just trying to “crank” out another piece or grind out more work. My Art is completely different than other work, I can’t just clock in, paint 8 hours and be done. I have to understand the entire process and allow it to develop.

"Holding On" 2014

Nothing lasts forever , the only constant thing is change. Change comes and change shakes up the path we found comfort on. Painting, creating, reflecting, just to capture a moment. What are we holding on to though? What’s keeping that perception that we are holding on too? I moved to Chicago, about 2 years ago, I moved from south side Lawndale, to Logan Square , where I am currently. The painting reflects the energy / setting I live. The hand is a representation of what we put our hands to, where we find our grind. Sometimes we work, we strive for something more, upwards, forward progression. We push on, and on, then comes a moment were you wander , what am I holding on to to keep pushing, what is our foundation, what’s the roots that’s holding it together for growth. Whatever it may be, this was just a thought. A thought I painted to share with you. Thank you for reading/ looking.
